Applying Total Worker Health® Approaches to Improve the Well-Being of Educators
Educators play a critical role in supporting students and communities, yet the demands of the profession can create significant challenges for worker health and well-being. Research from the Center for the Promotion of Health in the New England Workplace (CPH-NEW) shows that many educators experience high levels of daily stress, and that meaningful improvements in educator well-being can come from involving educators in developing practical solutions to address workplace conditions.
Researchers at CPH-NEW, a Center of Excellence for Total Worker Health® since 2006, launched the Total Teacher Health project in 2021 to better understand and address workplace factors affecting educator well-being. We used our Healthy Workplace Participatory Program to engage educators and administrators in identifying workplace challenges and developing solutions that improve working conditions while supporting healthier workers and organizations.
