Planned Giving

“As someone from a working-class family, the scholarship I received made my education possible and changed my life. That’s why I included a bequest to UMass Lowell in my will to ensure ongoing, continuous support for scholarships.”

 —Linda Mangan FitzPatrick ’68,
Chair of UMass Lowell’s Legacy Society

Many alumni and friends wish to support UMass Lowell but aren’t sure whether they can do so without compromising financial security or significantly reducing the size of their estate.

The Power of Legacy Giving

By making provisions in their estate plans, they are able to make a larger gift to UMass Lowell than would have been possible in their lifetimes.

Through your estate or retirement plan, you can provide general support to the university, or fund a program, project or area of study that is important to you.

Legacy gifts provide you with the financial flexibility to retain your assets during your lifetime. They may also provide a possible estate-tax charitable deduction.

There are many ways you can make a gift to UMass Lowell, depending on your goal:
  • Make a bequest provision in your will and donate your full or partial estate to UMass Lowell.
  • Add UMass Lowell as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy.
  • Create a charitable gift annuity that will provide you with income during your lifetime and then pass on to UMass Lowell.
