Bill Blood, a 30-year UMass Lowell employee and now a part-time staffer in the University’s faculty mailroom, has finished first in his age groupߞ;75-79ߞ;at the Timberman Triathlon at Ellacoya State Park on Lake Winnepesauke.
Having competed in the event the year before, Blood says, he was able to turn the experience to his advantage in the 2005 event, finishing the full courseߞ;a 1/3-mile swim, 15-mile bike ride and three-mile runߞ;in a total time of a little more than two hours, 28 minutes.

Blood’s winner’s prize was a $1,000 discount certificate on a carbon-fiber bike frame and a commemorative Timberman maple-syrup bottle.
