WHAT: A $26 million Hollywood feature film, based on the book by UMass Lowell Adjunct Professor and Writer Geoffrey Douglas, will debut in theatres nationwide on Friday April 22. The University will host an invitation-only premiere of The Game of Their Lives, featuring an introduction and book-signings by Douglas, beginning with a red-carpet reception at 6 p.m. at Cumnock Hall.

WHERE: Alumni Library and Cumnock Hall, University Avenue, Lowell
WHY: Based on Douglas' book of the same name, The Game of Their Lives tells the true story of the 1950 U.S. National Soccer Team and the greatest upset in the history of the World Cup. The movie is directed by David Anspaugh with the screenplay by Angelo Pizzo, the writer-director team that created the 1986 box-office favorite "Hoosiers," which was nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe Award. Douglas, the author of three books, is an adjunct instructor of English and staff writer at UMass Lowell since 1998. He has been published widely, including a 2001 Yankee piece "A Question of Life and Death," which was a finalist for the National Magazine Award.
