The Advancement of Mentoring Practice Program (AMPP) is aimed to foster faculty advisors’ and their doctoral advisees’ knowledge and skills for building successful and enduring mentoring relationships. The AMPP is a 10-week program (starting in early February 2022). Participated advisors and their doctoral advisees attend a one-hour meeting every other week (5 meetings for advisors; 5 for advisees).

Advisors attend five meetings with a variety of themes:

  • effective communication,
  • researcher independence,
  • mentor-mentee expectations agreement,
  • networking, and
  • individual development plan.

Their advisees also participate in five meetings that parallel to themes of the advisor sessions. Advisors meet one week ahead of the advisee session in order to form and tailor the advisee session.

How to apply?
We are accepting applicants. Apply to the program.

We hope advisor-advisee pairs can jointly participate in the AMPP. If you are a faculty advisor currently without an advisee or you are a doctoral student who has not had an advisor yet, you are welcome to sign up the AMPP and we will contact you to discuss whether this program is right for you.

The meetings will be held at noon, but we have not decided which day (Monday – Thursday) to meet. Once all the applications are in, we will send out a doodle poll to figure out the best time for everyone.
