With COVID-19 vaccination eligibility expanding to all Massachusetts residents age 16 and up on Monday, April 19, please be sure to take a moment to review this vaccine Q & A from UMass Lowell experts and researchers.

While your personal care provider remains your key voice for detailed or specific questions you may have based on your unique medical circumstances, I hope these answers from experts who double as our friends and colleagues will help resolve any outstanding questions you may have.

As we prepare to return to on-campus operations for the fall semester, we were pleased that in a recent survey more than 85 percent of UMass Lowell employees and students indicated they planned to be vaccinated by the time classes start in the fall. And speaking on behalf of Chancellor Moloney and all university leaders, we strongly encourage everyone to get vaccinated as quickly as they are able.

In addition to signing up through state and federal websites, UMass Lowell is also continuing to work with Lowell General Hospital to offer appointments specifically for the UMass Lowell community at its mass vaccination site at Cross River Center at 1001 Pawtucket Blvd. Look for additional messages in your university email with details on how to sign up.

Our LGH partners have also asked that if you have booked a vaccine appointment and later find you can be vaccinated elsewhere sooner, please cancel your original appointment to reduce “no-shows” and ensure others can schedule their vaccine in a timely way.

COVID-19 vaccinations will be the quickest, most permanent way to return to pre-pandemic life at UMass Lowell and in our communities.
