Blackboard On-Campus: Information For Faculty

  • Course Shells: Fall 2020 course shells have been created for all face to face courses in On-Campus Blackboard with the exception of dissertation and thesis courses. Course shells for these will be created by request. To request a shell simply email: with your course information.
  • A content request is required: All faculty will need to request content for their fall course shells. To build a course from scratch request a new course template. Faculty can also request to copy content from one of their previous Blackboard courses.

Course Setup has moved: Course setup is no longer done in SIS. Faculty can now complete course setup all in one place by going to the Blackboard Course Management website.

There are two instances of Blackboard at UMass Lowell. One is hosted by the Division of Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS, formerly OCE) for non-traditional, fully online courses, and summer courses. On-Campus Blackboard is hosted by Academic Technology in IT.

Summer pedagogy and technology workshops will be available during July and August; details will be announced in July.

  • BLACKBOARD ACCESS FORMS (TAs, Graders, & Secondary Instructors) - TAs have the same level of access as Instructors. Graders only have access to the Grade Center. They are added to the course in SIS by the Registrar. On-Campus Blackboard enrollments are fed from SIS every hour on the half hour.
  • MY COURSES MANAGEMENT (pdf) - Every semester your list of courses on the My Courses module gets larger; this job aid shows how you can hide non-essential courses from your list.
  • ATTENDANCE APP - There are several ways to electronically capture attendance in your class. This page has a description of the Attendance App created by Web Services and the attendance tool within Blackboard.
  • LOGIN PROBLEMS - Set your password retrieval security questions at the UMass Lowell Mypassword website to reset your password anytime including after hours. If you ever forget the answers to your security questions, you will have to contact the IT Service Desk during normal business hours.
