The Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended 2008 applies to employers with 15 or more employees. This Act protects applicants and employees with qualified disabilities from discrimination on the basis of disability. It also requires access, and that reasonable accommodations are provided for:
- Students with disabilities, regarding education including all programs and services.
- Qualified applicants with disabilities, regarding the application and/or interview process.
- Staff/faculty with disabilities, regarding performing the essential functions of their positions, and regarding all terms, conditions and benefits of employment.
Some disabilities are physical. Some disabilities are visible. Many disabilities are neither visible nor physical. Do not assume that someone does or does not have a disability.
UMass Lowell's Persons with Disabilities Administrative Announcement on the Guidelines and Procedures page describes equal opportunity rights and prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities, people perceived to be disabled, people who had a disability now in remission, and people who are closely associated with an individual with a disability.

The EOO staff person will explain and discuss the process, including receiving any relevant documentation from your health care provider.
