UMass Lowell is committed to helping faculty and staff support students, as well as each other.

Online Program: Preventing Harassment and Discrimination, with Title IX

At UMass Lowell, we believe that equal opportunity and safe working and learning environments are not only just, but are also the foundations for a diverse, inclusive and highly effective community in which all members may thrive. UMass Lowell is committed to providing an education and working environment free from all forms of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, including sex-based discrimination.

Chancellor Moloney reaffirmed the university's commitments in her August 3, 2020 message to the campus in which she announced the establishment of a Council on Social Justice and Inclusion. Within the Council's structure will be a new Task Force focused on the implementation of many of the recommendations of the Sexual Harassment Task Force to prevent and address sexual misconduct.

On May 6, 2020, the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights released new federal regulations that explicitly articulate the process that all educational institutions must follow to review sexual harassment complaints under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 which prohibits discrimination based on sex under any education program or activity receiving federal financial aid. These new regulations came into effect on August 14, 2020.

With the new federal regulations in view, we are providing a new online program administered by EverFi/Foundry, a nationally recognized vendor in Higher Education training. Preventing Harassment and Discrimination, with Title IX serves to update the Intersections: Anti-Harassment and Title IX course you may have previously completed, integrating the requirements of the new regulations. This program provides interactive exercises that enhance skills to respond and prevent harassment on our campus; and practical tips on creating a safe, inclusive environment for learning and work. To request enrollment in Preventing Harassment and Discrimination, with Title IX and Clery training, contact Equal Opportunity and Outreach at 978-934-3563 or Equal_Opportunity@uml.edu.

At UMass Lowell, enhancing and continuing to foster a climate of respect, integrity, equity, social justice, transparency, fairness, safety and inclusion is everyone's responsibility, and we know that with your support, we will succeed.
