The School of Education offers four-year undergraduate program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Education with two licenses. All students must complete course work for both licenses: Elementary (grades 1-6) and Moderate Disabilities (grades PK-8). The degree offers both education courses and a rich blend of liberal arts and sciences courses, giving teacher candidates both the content and teaching knowledge needed to be confident and successful educators. The School of Education also offers graduate degrees. For further information see graduate catalog.
The School of Education also offers the Education Minor and the STEM Teaching Minor (UTeach) for students considering a career in teaching or other education-related work. The Education Minor does not lead to teacher licensure. The STEM Teaching minor does lead to initial teacher licensure in Massachusetts. The program is open exclusively to STEM majors. The School of Education is one of 44 institutions nationwide to offer the UTeach program designed to prepare math, science and engineering undergraduates to become well-qualified licensed middle school and high school teachers.
