Concert Band Concert

The UMass Lowell Concert Band, directed by Dr. Debra-Nicole Huber, is comprised of students who represent a multitude of majors from all colleges at UML. The ensemble performs a wide array of contemporary and traditional Concert Band works. The program opens with Our Sons and Daughters March, a contemporary work by Hosay. Then, in Hazo’s setting of A Wild Mountain Thyme, and Barker’s treatment of the Irish lullaby Deir’In De, the composers capture appreciation of nature in everyday life. This semester's program also features the movement Hobbits from Johan DeMeij’s1987 composition Lord of the Rings. DeMeij’s vision, created from the books, two decades before the movies. Once published it won the international Sudler Prize, one of 30 major awards DeMeij collected for his writing. The concert concludes with Boysen’s Scarborough Fair, where a gentle English folk-song opens, then suddenly explodes into dark, pulsating energy, racing and pounding to an exciting conclusion.

The concert is free and open to the public.
