Radius Ensemble opens its annual concert at UMass Lowell with Augusta Read Thomas’s contemplative Rumi Settings, exploring the “exquisite humanity and raw soul” of the 13th-century mystic and poet Rumi. This is followed by Grammy-nominated composer Mary Kouyoumidjian’s Aghavni (Doves) for solo piano, which chronicles the lives of a group of women before and during the Armenian Genocide. Next, Arvo Pärt’s minimalist Spiegel im Spiegel (Mirror in the Mirror) from 1978 will transport and mesmerize you. We close with Mozart's masterful and lively quartet in F major for oboe and strings, featuring Radius Ensemble’s director (and UML parent) Jennifer Montbach.
