CCI Seminar: Disentangling the Uncertainty in Flash Drought Definition & the Role of Near Real Time Vegetation Info

Flash droughts are droughts with rapid onset and without sufficient early warning. Our research has two aims: first, to explore the influence of flash drought definition on its detection, characteristics, and trends, and second, to investigate the influence of satellite-derived vegetation data on soil moisture and flash drought development in state-of-the-art land surface models. This work contributes to our understanding of the physical processes involved in the development of flash droughts, with the goal of predicting flash drought events more accurately to mitigate their impacts.
