Social entrepreneurship is increasingly being recognized as a powerful tool for development. However, because of their double bottom-line, social and economic goals, social entrepreneurs must deal with a high degree of complexity to achieve the two, sometimes incompatible, missions of their firms. Nevertheless, in locations where the formal institutional environment is too weak to help alleviate poverty, the social enterprise might be the only real possibility to help alleviate poverty. Thus, in this presentation, I will describe how social enterprises operating in a developing country have been able to align different goals to decrease tensions between their double-bottom line to help impoverished communities in a developing country.
