Aera Synthetica: A Markus Haala Project

What is “nature” and what is “the natural”? These seemingly easy to answer questions become progressively harder to discuss with the rapidly expanding impact of human intervention on the ecosphere. These questions are essential to Markus Haala’s studio-based research which investigates the intersection of post-structuralist theory and the philosophical foundation of contemporary environmental studies. AERA SYNTHETICA. Surveying New Nature  brings together Haala’s most recent installations and sculptures in dialog with contributions by his mentors Mark Dion, Mathias Kessler, Craig Stockwell, and Michael Oatman, as well as frequent collaborators and friends Marc Mannheimer, Ingrid Hess, Todd Bartel and Patrick Jacobs. The talk is followed by a reception in the University Gallery in Mahoney Hall.
