Returning to Campus

Spring 2021 Plan to Return to Campus

UMass Lowell is planning to reopen in the spring at the scale initially planned for in the fall:

  • To ensure a safe and successful transition into our residence halls, classrooms and laboratories, the week of Jan. 25 will be conducted remotely for all courses. Additionally, all employees who are able to work remotely should continue to do so until notified otherwise by their supervisors.
  • After holding 8 percent of courses on campus last fall, we plan to increase face-to-face classes to 25 percent this spring. Up to 30% of the approximately 3,000 sections will be delivered either in-person or through hybrid formats. The remaining sections will be taught in either online (asynchronous) or virtual (synchronous and asynchronous components) formats.
  • Increasing the fall's on-campus presence of residential students from 700 up to 1,100, Residential Life will maintain one student per bedroom and 25% of capacity. Dining will include reservations in the dining hall and extensive “grab-and-go” options.
  • On-campus staff will continue to be restricted to align with the state’s recommendations for meeting size and office staffing. No office is operating at greater than 25% in-person capacity at any one time.
