Peer Prevention Educators

NOTE: Applications for Spring 2018 will be available beginning in October!

Peer Prevention Educators (called CAPE) are UMass Lowell students who believe in the power of early intervention, awareness and bystander education. They have a desire and passion to stop sexual violence and support positive mental health through education and awareness.  Learn more about who the CAPEs are here.

How to Apply:

  1. Fill out an application online.
  2. Send a minimum of 2 academic of professional letters of reference to:

  3. Selected applicants will attend an interview with Jacquie Keeves, Assistant Director for Violence Prevention.

Is there training?

Yes! We spend time with our peer educators offering them training in a variety of content areas including:

  • Peer Education
  • Bystander Intervention
  • Sexual Violence
  • Suicide Prevention
  • and more...

Training sessions are a combination of national best practice models and others that are tailored for UMass Lowell.

Expectations and Roles

The role of the Prevention Educators will be to promote education and awareness around sexual violence and mental health awareness.This will be done through different avenues such as workshops, programs and social media.

The expectation of a Prevention Educator is that they commit to three semesters - Spring 2018 through Spring 2019. It is asked that they have the ability to commit eighty-five hours over the course of each semester to the Prevention program.

Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be in good academic standing. Student must meet GPA requirements for their major.
  • Have attained sophomore status.
  • Supply a minimum of two academic or professional references.
  • Submit an online application.
  • Attend an interview with the Assistant Director of Violence Prevention.
