In an effort to reduce our overall carbon footprint, the state of Massachusetts requires that all new public buildings meet a minimum of LEED Silver certification. According to the United States Green Building Council, "LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. To receive LEED certification, building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification."
University Crossing, a LEED Silver candidate building, has the opportunity to gain several points by leveraging green initiatives in the adjacent parking lots via two programs:
Fuel Efficient Vehicles (FEV):
13 Fuel Efficient Vehicle (FEV) spaces will be placed in the Fletcher Lot in the spaces closest to the bus stop. UCAPS performed an analysis of all University Crossing staff decal participation and determined that over 1/3 of the vehicles driving to the building meet the FEV criteria; we are confident these spaces will be put to great use. For a list of LEED-Qualified vehicles that are eligible to park in these spaces, please find a list at GreenerCars.org*.
*Please note the list is sorted by Year, then GBClass, and then Make and Model so you may need to scroll down or do a search to find you vehicle.
13 Carpool spaces will be available in the Salem Lot. To take advantage of these spaces, faculty, staff and students are urged to review our existing carpool program to reduce our carbon footprint, save money, and even park closer to your destination!
