CAP Sustainability Subcommittee

The Climate Action Plan Sustainability Subcommittee leads the recycling and composting efforts on the UMass Lowell campus.

The Sustainability Subcommittee envisions providing UMass Lowell with essential, centralized, support services that integrate, communicate, and promote environmental sustainable opportunities that contribute to the pursuit of carbon neutrality.

The Sustainability Subcommittee supports the UMass Lowell Climate Action Plan by means of fostering environmental stewardship, behavioral changes, and advocating best sustainable practices which embrace and communicate opportunities to reduce one's carbon footprint. The sustainability programs provide centralized environmental leadership services that support structured approaches with measurable outcomes that enrich the University community and greater world.

The subcommittee it is composed of members from throughout the greater university community including, student groups, Dining Services, Administration, University Relations, Environmental and Emergency Management, Student Activities, Residence Life, Facilities, Casella Waste Solutions and the City of Lowell.

The group typically meets twice a month, every other Thursday.

In April 2014, the subcommittee joined forces with the Student Life CAP Subcommittee because both groups were working on very similar initiatives. Sitting at the same table and working together has proved to strengthen the number of accomplishments of both committees.
