Student Engagement

The University of Massachusetts Lowell works to demonstrate its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability through implementing various programs. Much of the work in this area runs through the Sustainability CAP Subcommittee as environmental stewardship is featured prominently in our mission.

To learn more about some of our initiatives in this area check out the following:

  • Green Tips and Tid-Bits - Includes various green tips and small tid-bits you can do to be more environmentally sustainable in addition to listing the environmental impact of very small and measurable actions.
  • Donation Diversion Drives - At key times of the year, like spring move-out, items are donated by students that would have otherwise been thrown into the dumpsters. These items are then donated to local organizations and diverted from landfills.
  • Community Garden - Compost from our Dining Halls comes back to campus in the spring which we use to grow food in the Community Garden. Various departments sponsor plots and any surplus food is donated to local organizations.
