Mill City Grows fosters food justice by improving physical health, economic independence and environmental sustainability in Lowell through increased access to land, locally-grown food and education. Our goal is to increase community access to healthy, fresh food through the development of urban food production and distribution networks.
The Luna Theater shows movies in a unique, vintage theater in downtown Lowell. The Evolution & Ecology Club in collaboration with the Office of Sustainability viewed a showing of Racing Extinction with students, faculty, and the public. Many other environmental movies are available to watch throughout the year at Luna Theater.
Mass Wildlife is responsible for the conservation - including protection, restoration, and management - of Massachusetts' fauna and flora, including endangered, threatened, and special concern species. UMass Lowell is home to a mating pair of Peregrine Falcons, an endangered species of bird in the state. Become a volunteer for Mass Wildlife to help during breeding season!
The Summer Kayak Center offers educational and recreational kayaking opportunities to the UMass community and greater public on the Merrimack River.
The mission of the Outdoor Adventure Program is to support the development of healthy, balanced lifestyles for the UMass Lowell community through outdoor recreation activities. We aim to provide the university community with fun and safe experiences that develop technical skills and cultivate the personal development of our participants and student staff. Finally, we strive to foster environmental awareness and work to build a diverse and sustainable community.
