Boston Puerto Rican Osteoporosis Study

About The Study

The Boston Puerto Rican Osteoporosis Study (BPROS) is an extension of the Boston Puerto Rican Health Study (BPRHS). After participants of the BPRHS completed their 2 year visit, they were invited to take part in the BPROS. The BPROS collect additional measurements, including bone mineral density (BMD).

The aims of this study are to:

  1. Assess the status of BMD
  2. Investigate the relationship between stress, biological responses to injury/infection and bone
  3. Determine dietary contributions to BMD
  4. Investigate the relationship between genes and the environment with BMD
