Yoga for bone and cardiovascular health in pre and postmenopausal women; Aging and Bone Health; Endocrine Response to Exercise
SoJung (Sophie) Kim's overall career goal is to identify and promote physical activities that enhance bone health and which are sustainable in a community and throughout an individual's lifetime. As an ultimate endeavor she aims to prevent chronic diseases with a focus on osteoporosis, a strong risk factor for hip fracture in later life. Preventing osteoporosis is possible at many levels, including primary prevention by improving bone health in childhood and secondary prevention by reducing fall risk and sustaining bone health in the elderly. She is passionate about translating research into clinical practice. SoJung Kim's future research goals are to design an alternative activity to prevent osteoporosis and bone fractures; to increase the interest in research about bone health throughout life; to target health professionals (parents, teachers, other researchers) about bone health. The transdisciplinary research she aims to perform would successfully merge her background in kinesiology, exercise physiology, and biomechanics with her interest in health promotion.
