  • Governor Baker Announces $4M grant to fuel the Printed Electronics Research Collaborative.

March

  • Researchers and students present additive manufacturing and printed electronics research at the 3D Printing Symposium held on the UMass Lowell campus.
  • Graduate student, Mahdi Haghzadeh and Professors Craig Armiento, Ph.D. and Alkim Akyurtlu, Ph.D. present "Electrostatic and Full Wave Simulations of Buried-Plates Interdigitated BST Varactors" at the International Review of Progress in Applied Computational Electromagnetics (ACES).
  • PERC Director, Craig Armiento, Ph.D. was the invited speaker at the International Microelectronics and Packaging Society (iMAPS) Chapter meeting.

May

  • PERC Launch Meeting is held at the Saab ETIC. Industry members and Massachusetts Technology Collaborative Innovation Institute (MTC II) representatives join the UMass community to officially kick-off the Collaborative. The six founding industry members include Raytheon, SI2 Technologies, Rogers Corporation, Triton Systems, MicroChem and Creative Materials.

  • Faculty and graduate students present research at the iMAPS New England Symposium in Boxborough, MA. Doctoral student, Mahdi Haghzadeh receives the second place award for his student poster, "Printable Tunable Miniaturized Metamaterials with BST/Polymer Composite Varactors".

  • PERC Center Director Craig Armiento, Ph.D. presents at the Desphande Symposium for Innovation & Entrepreneurship.
  • PERC becomes an award recipient for a National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI) America Makes Federal proposal, "Multidisciplinary Design Analysis for Seamless Additive Manufacturing Design, Analysis, Build and Redesign Workflows" PERC partners with Raytheon, General Electric Global Research, ANSYS, Autodesk, NetFabb, Altair and the University of Wisconsin.
  • RURI is awarded the 2015 New Century Award by the Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM) for its role in Regional Economic Development.
  • Katie Stebbins, Assistant Secretary for Housing & Economic Development of Massachusetts tours PERC.
  • Brigadier General William Cole, Commander of the United States Army Natick Soldiers Systems Center visits PERC.
  • Raytheon Vice President of Research and Innovation, John Zolper, Ph.D. tours RURI/PERC.
  • BAE Systems becomes a PERC member.
  • FLEXcon becomes a PERC member.
  • Eight corporations are PERC members.

July

  • At the Progress in Electromagnetic Research Symposium in Prague, Czech Republic, Craig Armiento, Ph.D. and Alkim Akyurtlu, Ph.D. present their research on additive manufacturing, printed electronics and metamaterials.
  • The First MTC Governing Board meeting is held.

August

  • James Zheng, Ph.D., Director and Chief Scientist for the Technical Management Directorate, Department of Defense, Program Executive Office (PEO) Soldier, U.S. Army tours PERC
  • Patrick Malenfant, Ph.D. presents his work "A Viable Route to High-Mobility Printed Transistors Based on Carbon Nanotubes" to UMass faculty, students and PERC industry members. Patrick Malenfant is the Materials Thrust Leader, Printable Electronics for the National Research Council of Canada.
