Optical Telescope

The fully robotic optical telescope is mounted on the roof of Olney Hall. The telescope is 10-inch aperture Schmidt-Cassegrain manufactured by Meade Instruments. The mount is an equatorial design, which is aligned to the north celestial pole, and equipped with a drive that tracks the apparent rotation of the sky. The robotic mount can point the telescope to any target in the sky and hold it steady in the field of view, using a combination of pre-programmed tracking and real-time guiding motions. The telescope feeds a scientific research-grade CCD camera and spectrograph, augmented by an adaptive optics module.
