The Integrated Nuclear Security and Safeguards Laboratory (INSSL) at The University of Massachusetts Lowell (INSSL – UML) in Cooperation with Comissão Nacional de Energia Nuclear (CNEN) and sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Partnership for Nuclear Security (PNS) held a Professional Development Course in Angra, Brazil from May 28 – June 1, 2017. UMass Lowell’s Nuclear Engineering Program Coordinator, Sukesh Aghara, participated as a member of the Consortium Team for the PDC. The PDC, Applied Nuclear Security Culture, was developed for the working professionals and technical nuclear community in Brazil. Twelve participants for Brazil registered for the PDC. They represented all the key operations related to Brazil’s nuclear program. Subject Matter Experts from INSSL-UML, King’s College London and Sandia National Laboratory (USA) contributed to the PDC. The SME and the participants visited the 2 nuclear power plants in Brazil – Angra 1 and Angra 2 on the last day of the PDC.
