Harnessing Emerging Research Opportunities to Empower Soldiers (HEROES) is a joint research and development initiative of UMass Lowell and the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Soldier Center (DEVCOM SC )that brings together complementary expertise across disciplines to solve complex scientific and engineering problems related to soldier protection, performance and survivability. The HEROES initiative accelerates research and innovation by tapping into the intellectual assets and research facilities of both organizations.
This initiative spans basic and applied research relating to airdrop and aerial delivery, technologies for soldier protection (clothing and protective equipment), combat feeding (food), expeditionary basing/collective protection and human systems integration. By maximizing synergistic interactions HEROES expands research and developmental efforts in emerging areas to provide better solutions for challenges that our Heroes (U.S. Warfighters) face in the field.
