LaTonya J. Trotter is an Assistant Professor in the Sociology Department at Vanderbilt University. Her work explores the relationship between changes in the organization of medical work and the reproduction of racial, economic, and gender inequality. Her first book, "More than Medicine" (Cornell University Press 2020) shows how nurse practitioners (NPs) expand the medical encounter to include a mix of health, social, and coordination problems—illustrating that NPs are not just filling in for the absent physician, but for the absence of the state in attending to the problems of poverty and access to care. LaTonya’s work has also been published in The American Journal of Public Health, Gender & Society and Social Currents.
