Each year, the CWW sponsors and co-sponsors a number of events on campus and in the community. We also regularly collaborate on events with other groups including the UMass Lowell Labor Extension Program, Lowell Women’s Week and the UMass Lowell Gender Studies Program. For information about past events, please see ourEvent Archives page.

CWW has a space available for small events, meetings, and working lunches that help promote the mission of the organization. To check availability, please call the center at 978-934-4380.

#MeToo: Critical Perspectives on Gender, Sexuality, and Violence

  • Date / Time: Monday, April 23, 2-3:30 p.m.
  • Venue: Conference Room 107, Allen House, South Campus, UMass Lowell

This panel aims to broaden both public and scholarly conversations around sexual assault by focusing on issues/perspectives/experiences that are often absent in mainstream/dominant discourses. The first panel will challenge traditional conceptualizations of sexual assault by illuminating critical social and structural conditions that undergird sexual violence. The second panel will critically examine community and systems responses to sexual violence. All the presentations will be informed by inter-sectional perspectives. They will embrace/honor/center voices/experiences that tend to be silenced or are absent in mainstream discourses and incorporate some systemic understanding of the issues (i.e., an explicit recognition that these are not “women’s issues”).

Panelists:

  • Judith Davidson (College of Education)
  • Urmitapa Dutta (Psychology)
  • Christa Hodapp (Philosophy)
  • Melissa Morabito (School of Criminology and Justice Studies)
  • April Pattavina (School of Criminology and Justice Studies)
  • Jessica Shaw (School of Social Work, Boston College)
  • Dre Vargas (Center for Hope and Healing)
