Total Worker Health Trends: Expert Webinar Series - Evidence Informed Resources to Address Worker Stress and Trauma Among Correctional Workforce

Correctional staff working in jails and prisons are at risk for adverse mental health sequelae, including stress, burnout, and psychological distress from traumatic events experienced on the job. Guest Speakers, Mazen El Ghaziri Ph.D., Lisa Jaegers Ph.D., and Martin Cherniak M.D., M.P.H. discuss best practices and propose innovative solutions to reduce correctional staff trauma and organizational stress in U.S. jail and prison settings based on the findings from a scoping review and national survey. The symposium will bring together an audience of safety and health professionals, employers, researchers, policymakers, labor representatives, and academic community members. Rethinking Wellbeing in The Evolving Workplace: A Holistic Approach Involving Technology, Ergonomics, and Work Organization

The COVID-19 pandemic caused an abrupt shift in work systems in the US and across the globe, with a dramatic increase in the number of people working remotely from their homes. For many people, Work From Home (WFH) will continue to be an option, at least on a part-time basis. When employees’ homes become their workplaces, we need to rethink the design of these new flexible/hybrid office environments and how we can protect and promote health and wellbeing of the workforce. In this webinar, research scientist and office systems expert Michelle Robertson, Ph.D., CPE will review how the new hybrid work system (a mixture of in-office and remote work) changes the way work is experienced by individuals and the organization. She will discuss strategies that use a work systems perspective to promote worker wellbeing and performance to achieve the benefits of hybrid and telework arrangements. Robertson will discuss her telework research and provide valuable key recommendations to consider when managing the safety, well-being and performance of workers in these challenging times.

• Total Worker Health^® Facilitator Training

This CPH-NEW training course taught participants how to engage virtually in a design process focused on employee safety, health and well-being. Participants were shown how to implement the Design Team model used in the Healthy Workplace Participatory Program (HWPP). Following the completion of the program, participants will be able to lead a virtual team in discussing ways to improve safety, health, and well-being.

This event was sponsored by the Center for Social Epidemiology at the University of the Andes, and Suramericana, a large Colombian occupational health insurance company that provides workplace insurance to about 30% of the Colombian workforce.
