The UMass Lowell Center for Advanced Materials (CAM) has been established as a multi-disciplinary research and resource center, bringing together state-of-the-art instrumentation, facilities and expert personnel. Its goal is the development of a knowledge base in the design, synthesis, characterization and intelligent processing of advanced materials, driven by the needs of potential technological applications. CAM adds in a significant and fundamental manner to the university’s mission in the creation of a sustainable industrial economy.
One of CAM's projects is HEROES -- Harnessing Emerging Research Opportunities to Empower Soldiers. The UMass Lowell / U.S. Army Natick multidisciplinary partnership brings together the expertise of NSRDEC (Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center) scientists, engineers with UMass Lowell faculty and students to improve survivability and sustainability of U.S. Troops.
