Manning School of Business doctoral student Murtaza Nasir (management science) gave two research presentations at the fifth annual Analytics Without Borders Conference (AWBC) held at Tufts University on Feb. 28.

The conference is an interdisciplinary, cross-university event co-organized by academic institutions including UMass Lowell, Tufts University, Bentley University and Bryant University, along with sponsors from the American Statistical Association, National Institute of Statistical Sciences and Tufts Data Intensive Studies Center.

Both of Nasir's presentations were well received by the attendees and received very good feedback. One of Nasir's research projects (Substance Use Disorder Outcome Predictions for Decision Support: A Holistic Data Approach) is based on inter-disciplinary work with colleagues from UMass Lowell's Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences and the UMass Medical School.

Asil Oztekin, associate professor in the Operations and Information Systems department, served as one of the faculty sponsors of the AWBC conference. Oztekin will lead efforts to host the sixth annual conference on the UMass Lowell campus next year, thanks to Dean Sandra Richtermeyer’s support.

The conference provides a single venue for interdisciplinary research, collaboration and communication on applied data analytics, and engages presenters spanning disciplines of business, economics, finance, public health and nutrition around a common goal: utilizing data sciences and cross-disciplinary approaches to solve complex problems and challenges.

It is focused on a shared agenda to harness the power of data sciences to discuss the complexities of wide-span problems through the lens of data sciences, businesses and trade.
