Several members of UMass Lowell’s Police Department were honored for accomplishments during the past year at the Department’s second annual awards ceremony.

Handed out on Jan. 17 at Police Department headquarters at University Crossing, the awards recognized excellence in community policing, administration, investigations and dedicated service. Recipients included Sgt. Steve Eramo, Sgt. Scott Childs, Officer Walter Nadeau, Officer Mike Holder, Detective Mike Soucy, Campus Security Officer Orlando Matos and Dispatcher Colin Trelegan.

“We are very proud of our staff,” says University Police Chief Randy Brashears. “It’s important to respect and recognize the work that these professionals do.” Check out a photo gallery of the day's event.
Citizen awards were given to Trinity Emergency Medical Service emergency medical technicians Greg Pekarski and Tim Cunningham.

Brashears also announced the Police Liaison Program, under which officers will volunteer to pair up with student groups, dorm residents and sports teams to build relationships. Several officers have already signed on to participate.

The department is in the process of hiring another group of interns for the spring semester.
