The language of technology is nearly universal: graphs, computer programs and electrical circuits are used by engineers around the world.

So, a visiting delegation from the Hanoi University of Technology found much in common with the departments of Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering.

“The Hanoi University of Technology is the premier university in Vietnam for engineering,” says John Ting, dean of UMass Lowell’s Francis College of Engineering. The five delegates were exploring possibilities for international collaboration, such as faculty exchanges.

Prof. Jie Wang, chair of the Computer Science Department, and Prof. Craig Armiento, chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, led the group in discussions and lab visits.

Dr. Hoang Minh Son, director of undergraduate studies at the Vietnam university, led the Hanoi group. He was accompanied by Hanoi University of Technology’s dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering and other research and administrative directors.
