The Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society has awarded its 2010 Chemistry of Thermoplastic Elastomers Award to Prof. Rudolf Faust of the Chemistry Department.

The award, which honors significant contributions to the advancement of the field of thermoplastic elastomers and is sponsored by the Ralph S. Graff Foundation, consists of a $4,000 prize, a plaque and $500 to cover travel expenses to attend the awards banquet at the division’s spring meeting in Akron, Ohio, in April 2010. Faust will give a presentation about his work at the meeting.

An expert in polymer chemistry, Faust served as editor of Polymer Bulletin (1998 to 2007) and currently serves as editorial board member of the Journal of Macromolecular Science and Polymer Bulletin. He has published more than 200 papers and 19 patents.

In 2008, the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center awarded him and Boston Scientific Corp. a three-year $600,000 grant to work on the design, processes and nanomanufacturing of special coatings for pacemakers and defibrillators. For more information, read the eNews story.
