College of Management students and one alum were recently honored by professional organizations for their achievements.
Financial Executives International presented awards to UMass Lowell students during an event at the Sheraton Needham Hotel. Senior Leslie Shaw was named as UMass Lowell’s Outstanding Graduating Student in Accounting/Finance and junior Paul McDermott received a scholarship from FEI.
Three others were recognized by the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants in May at a reception at the Colonnade Hotel in Boston. The event made note of Massachusetts residents who recently passed the exam to become a certified public accountant, as well as recipients of 2009 scholarships from the organization.
Jacob Edmund-Acquah, a candidate to receive his MBA in 2010, and Brandon Chin, a junior Accounting major, each received scholarships. Dianna Crowell, a 2004 UMass Lowell graduate who is a senior accountant at Caras and Shulman in Burlington, was honored for passing the CPA exam.
Prof. J. Stephen Collins, head of the Accounting department, and Mary Ellen Morris, an adjunct accounting instructor, represented UMass Lowell at both events. Morris also recommended Edmund-Acquah for the accounting society’s scholarship.
