Sculptor Salvador Vassallo Visits His Art

Luna Quisqueyana Erected in 1996 as Gift to Students

Sculptor Salvador Vassallo, center, from the Dominican Republic, stands in front of his sculpture, “Luna Quisqueyana,” erected in 1996 as a gift to the students and community of UMass Lowell.  Vassallo spent a semester as the UMass Lowell Artist-in Residence where he took on this project in collaboration with the Catholic University of Santo Domingo.   His is pictured with, from left, Graduate School of Engineering Prof. Juan Rodriguez; his wife, Soledad Vassallo; and two staff members who worked with Vassallo on the project: David Rondeau, plastics engineering, and Glen Bousquet, mechanical engineering.  This sculpture can be found in front of the Lydon Library.
