What: UMass Lowell is celebrating the reopening of one of its most important research and academic buildings, Perry Hall, after more than 18 months and a $50 million makeover.
Perry Hall is home to academics, research and industry partnerships in fields including biomedical, chemical and environmental engineering, as well as biomanufacturing and clean energy. The project included a total reconstruction of the interior of the building’s existing 47,825 square feet, plus the addition of 5,600 square feet and improvements to the exterior. The building is named for alumnus Barry Perry in recognition of his support for student scholarships and other UMass Lowell initiatives.
Support for the reconstruction of Perry Hall includes a $5 million grant from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) for the Massachusetts BioManufacturing Center. Additional assistance for the Perry Hall project was provided by LEWA, the Foster Corp., Superior Controls and alumni donors including Lawrence Acquarulo Jr. and Richard Pierro Jr.
Participants in the opening event are scheduled to include Barry Perry ’68, for whom the building is named in recognition of support for research, academics, scholarships and collaboration with industry; UMass Lowell faculty and students; representatives of the UMass system and the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, which helped fund the project; local officials; and industry partners.
