What:UMass Lowell will unveil its new Cyber Range, a center for cybersecurity education, research and workforce development that uses real-world scenarios to prepare people for careers in the growing field.

The number of job openings in cybersecurity is predicted to top 3 million by 2021.

UMass Lowell is designated as a National Security Agency/Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence in Cyber Defense Research and is a leader in cybersecurity education and training.

The university will officially open the new Cyber Range at an event for the campus and industry partners that will feature demonstrations of the center’s capabilities.

Representatives of Red Hat Inc., MITRE Corp. and Spinnaker Security LLC are scheduled to participate in the event, along with U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan; UMass Lowell Chancellor Jacquie Moloney; Stephanie Helm, director of the MassCyberCenter at the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative; Katie Stebbins, University of Massachusetts vice president for economic development; state and local officials including Rep. Tom Golden and Lowell Mayor William Samaras Noureddine Melikechi, dean of UMass Lowell’s Kennedy College of Sciences; and UMass Lowell students, faculty and staff.
