DigitalDigital Media Artist Shares the Inspirations Behind His Work
When: Wednesday, Oct. 19, 3:30 p.m.
What: Digital media artist Jeremy Bailey uses video performances and exhibitions to shine a light on the proliferation of modern-day technology. He’ll talk about the inspiration and creative process behind his work during a free program for the public and campus. The event is presented by UMass Lowell’s Department of Art and Design.

HomecomingSchool Spirit Takes Flight During River Hawk Homecoming
When: Friday, Oct. 21 through Sunday, Oct. 23
What: River Hawk Homecoming will unite generations of alumni, students, parents and the public for a celebration of UMass Lowell’s legacy, its rise as a top-tier public research university and its future as a global leader in higher education. Alumni athletic competitions, campus tours, class reunions and River Hawks men’s ice hockey games on Friday and Saturday are just some of the weekend’s activities that will showcase university life. Events also include the 18th annual Jennifer’s Fun Run/Walk, the Hawkey Way free outdoor festival for the public and a gathering for past and present members of UMass Lowell’s award-winning Model UN and International Relations Club to mark the 30th anniversary of these programs. Softball‘Softball Bash’ Engages Youths with Developmental Challenges in Sports
When: Sunday Oct. 23, 1 to 5 p.m.
What: Love of the Game Sports – an organization formed by UMass Lowell students through the university’s DifferenceMaker Program – will partner with the women’s softball team to present the “Softball Bash,” a free event for children with developmental disabilities, ages 8 and older, their families and friends. During the event, the athletes will coach participants in softball games and a skills clinic so they may gain confidence and an appreciation for athletic play. Love of the Game Sports is a past winner in the university’s DifferenceMaker Idea Challenge, a competition that awards seed funding to students for the best ideas that solve problems in the community and marketplace. AdmissionsAdmissions Open Houses Welcome Prospective Students
When: Sunday, Oct. 23 and Sunday, Oct. 30. Exhibits, resource fair, financial-aid workshops – 9 to 11:30 a.m. Academic presentations and campus tours – 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
What: Prospective students interested in UMass Lowell will learn about the university’s more than 100 undergraduate programs and campus life – including housing and dining options – during two admissions open houses. Exhibits, a resource fair, financial aid workshops, academic presentations and campus tours will provide participants with all the information they need; faculty, staff, students and alumni will also be available to discuss the university community. U.S. News & World Report first named UMass Lowell a top-tier national university in 2010 and since then, it has climbed 31 spots – from No. 183 to No. 152 – the second-fastest rise in the nation. The publication also ranks the university among the top 78 public institutions in the nation. The Chronicle of Higher Education ranks UMass Lowell as the ninth fastest-growing public doctoral institution in the country. IrishIrish Humanitarian Shares Story of Conflict and Forgiveness
When: Monday, Oct. 24, 4 to 6 p.m.
What: Irish humanitarian Richard Moore will discuss his life and work as a social activist during a free event for the public and campus. Moore lost his eyesight as a 10-year-old in 1972 after a British soldier at an army post in Northern Ireland shot him with a rubber bullet as he ran past. Drawing on that experience, Moore founded Children in Crossfire in 1996, an organization that aids young people who are caught in a cycle of violence and poverty. A decade after launching the initiative, Moore met the soldier who shot him and the men have become friends. The event is presented by UMass Lowell’s Center for Irish Partnerships, which fosters collaboration with educational institutions in Ireland and Northern Ireland to promote student and faculty exchanges and research that explore the Irish and American experience.

VoteUMass Lowell is a Polling Site on Early Voting Day
When: Tuesday, Oct. 25, 4 to 8 p.m.
What: Early Voting Day at UMass Lowell will provide registered voters who live in the Mill City a polling location where they can cast their ballots in the Nov. 8 election. In addition to selecting the next president, voters will elect a U.S. representative in the 3rd District, a state senator in the 1st Middlesex District, state representatives in the 16th, 17th and 18th Middlesex districts and a Middlesex County sheriff. Voters will also consider four state referendum questions that address the legalization of marijuana for recreational use for adults, the granting of a gaming license for a slots-only casino, a proposed expansion of the number of charter schools in the Commonwealth and a prohibition on the confinement of farm animals. UMass Lowell is offering the early voting in partnership with the city of Lowell’s Election and Census Commission.

HalloweenStudents Host Halloween Party for Lowell Children, Families
When: Wednesday, Oct. 26, 4 to 8 p.m.
What: UMass Lowell staff and students will volunteer to provide a “boo-tiful” time to Lowell children and the families to celebrate Halloween during this free event. Trick-or-treating, face-painting, games, a haunted house and other activities will all be a part of the fun. Free event parking will be available after 4 p.m. in the Broadway/Riverview lot, which is located off Broadway Street and is adjacent to the residence hall. Staff will direct guests from the parking lot into the building. The annual party is presented by the university’s Office of Residence Life.
