Nov. 3, 3 to 5 p.m.

What: More than 400 UMass Lowell students, faculty and staff will participate in the university’s Climate Change Teach-In, an event that engages the campus and public to take action on this environmental issue.

The program “Dealing with a Changing World: How Do We Respond?” will feature remarks by Michael Green, who advises the United Nations on climate-change policy and was named a “Champion of Change” by President Obama. Green is the director and founding partner of the Boston-based Climate Action Business Association (CABA). Joining him will be Spencer Glendon, who studies the global political and economic trends behind climate science in order to identify investment opportunities. He is the director of macroanalysis at Wellington Management Company.

Presentations by UMass Lowell students Sabrina Pedersen and Shyam Sheth will raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices on campus and throughout the community. Pedersen, a biology major from Burlington, is the president of the student-run Climate Change Coalition and the Evolution and Ecology Club. Sheth, a mechanical engineering major from Windham, N.H., leads UMass Lowell’s chapter of Engineers for a Sustainable World, a national organization committed to forging innovative solutions to local and global sustainability challenges.

UMass Lowell Chancellor Jacquie Moloney is also scheduled to be among the event’s speakers. A display of UMass Lowell projects by faculty and student researchers that address climate change will be showcased.

The Teach-In is organized by UMass Lowell’s Climate Change Initiative – a group of faculty, students and local leaders committed to addressing ways to improve the environment – and faculty and staff behind the university’s Climate Action Plan. Both the initiative and the plan inspire the UMass Lowell community to achieve carbon neutrality on campus and throughout the region.
