What: The Honorable Thomas Menino – Boston’s longest-serving mayor, known for his shoot-from-the-hip style and tenacious work ethic – will reflect on his public-service career and his future beyond City Hall when he visits UMass Lowell for a sold-out event in the university’s Lunchtime Lecture Series.

Registration for the public to attend this event is closed.

The program, “A Conversation with Boston Mayor Thomas Menino,” will give the public a chance to hear from him just two weeks before the Nov. 5 election that will determine his successor. Menino’s 20-year run as the city’s top official was preceded by five terms representing Boston’s Hyde Park section as a city councilor. Nicknamed the “urban mechanic,” he is the only mayor some Bostonians have ever known. His calling card through the years has been his ability to connect with residents and his commitment to strengthening Boston’s many neighborhoods. A national champion of cities, he served as the president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors from 2002 to 2003.

The Lunchtime Lecture Series brings outstanding speakers to UMass Lowell for a community dialogue on important topics. The next event, at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, will feature author, entrepreneur and consultant Nicco Mele, who will present “The End of Big: New Media and Society.” Free and open to the public, the series is co-sponsored by UMass Lowell’s Center for Arts and Ideas and the Moses Greeley Parker Lectures with support from community partners.

Where: UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center, 50 Warren St., Lowell. For directions and parking information, contact UMass Lowell media relations.
