University, Company to Announce Plans for Middle East Education Initiative

WHAT: UMass Lowell and Raytheon Company will announce plans to explore an international opportunity that could represent an investment by both partners in the future of a Middle East nation.
Representatives of UMass Lowell and Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems business will sign a memorandum of understanding to discuss an effort to assist a Middle East nation in diversifying its economy through expanding educational opportunities for its citizens. The program would look to spur in-country innovation through developing an educated and entrepreneurial workforce.
Full details of the program are expected to be determined over the next several months by the partners.
Scheduled speakers include UMass Lowell Chancellor Marty Meehan; Sanjay Kapoor, vice president of Integrated Air & Missile Defense for Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems business; UMass Lowell Provost Ahmed Abdelal; and Marcellette Williams, University of Massachusetts senior vice president for academic and student affairs and international relations.
