UMass Lowell to Unveil Future of Tsongas Arena

Media Invited to Tour $24 Million Facility on University’s First Day of Ownership

WHAT:  UMass Lowell will announce the future of the Tsongas Arena at a press event and tour of the $24 million facility.

University, state and city representatives, and students will be on hand to discuss plans for the future and the importance of Friday’s acquisition of the arena by UMass Lowell to campus life and the entire region. News about a national music tour coming to the Tsongas this spring will also be announced.

The one-hour event will start with a short speaking program, followed by a media tour and time for questions and answers.

The media tour will feature a firsthand look at extensive improvements already made to the arena and details of more to come.  The press conference precedes a grand re-opening celebration of the newly renamed facility ߝ the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell.

Participants in the announcement are scheduled to include Chancellor Marty Meehan; U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas; state Sen. Steven Panagiotakos; state Reps. Thomas Golden, Kevin Murphy and David Nangle; Lowell Mayor James Milinazzo; City Manager Bernie Lynch; UMass Building Authority Executive Director David MacKenzie; representatives of UMass Lowell athletics and UMass Lowell student leaders. Meehan will lead the media tour.
