WHAT: State legislators will join UMass Lowell in recognizing Massachusetts companies, community organizations and researchers for reducing the use of toxic chemicals, making the Commonwealth a safer place to live and work. Honorees are:
Industry Toxics Use Reduction Champions:
- Skyworks Solutions, Inc., Woburn
- Lightolier, Fall River
- Silver Hanger Cleaners, Bellingham
Community Toxics Use Reduction Champions:
- Brazilian Women’s Group, Allston
- Vietnamese-American Initiative for Development Inc. (Viet-AID), Dorchester
- Wampanoag Tribe, Martha’s Vineyard
- Center Pond, Becket
- Townsend Conservation Commission
- School Disinfection Workgroup, statewide project
- Northeast Organic Farming Association, Barre
- Lowell Green Building Commission
University Research Champion:
- Assoc. Prof. Sanjeev Manohar, director of the UMass Lowell Green Technology Lab
From 11 a.m. to noon, honorees and speakers will be available for interviews. At noon, the award presentation kicks off with opening comments from Michael Ellenbecker, director of the Toxics Use Reduction Institute and Sen. Anthony Petruccelli and Rep. William Straus, co-chairs of the Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture Committee.
