UML Holds Convocation for Freshman Students


"Life is Good" Co-Founder to Speak

WHEN: Thurs., September 7, 2006, 9:30 a.m.

WHAT:  UMass Lowell will mark the start of the school year with a new convocation ceremony.  This ceremony will serve as an opportunity to officially greet freshmen and recognize the students from each college.

The convocation will also include a talk by guest speaker Bert Jacobs, co-founder of the “Life is Good” brand.  Jacobs, along with his brother, began the successful “Life is Good” brand 10 years ago in Cambridge, Mass.  Jacobs’ talk will tie into the convocation’s theme of “Finding Your Place:  Expanding Your World.”

In addition, there will be a raffle for prizes such as a free semester’s tuition, iPods, Palm Pilots, a semester mean plan and book store credit.

WHERE: Durgin Concert Hall, 35 Wilder Street, UMass Lowell, UML South, Lowell, MA.

This event is intended to strengthen start of school formalities and provide an official kick-off to the school year.
