Inspired by Dean Sandra Richtermeyer’s energy and after conversations with Rob Manning ’84, ’11 (H) and fellow Manning School advisory board members, Brian Rist ’77 and his wife, Kim Rist, committed $3 million to endow the deanship in the Manning School of Business.

The Rist Family Foundation Endowed Deanship — the first endowed deanship at UMass Lowell — elevates Richtermeyer’s role and recognizes her tremendous effort at raising the university’s profile nationally, Rist says. The gift also lays a foundation for recruiting future deans.

“If you want to have a world-class school, you’ve got to create the structure that attracts and retains world-class individuals,” Rist says.   The gift will build upon a discretionary fund, established by Rist and other Manning School advisory board members, that helps students attend conferences, join professional groups, network with alumni and conduct research with faculty.

“Brian’s giving has made a significant difference in our ability to advance and elevate the career preparation of our students. The funding also provides emergency support for students with urgent financial needs and allows them to stay in school and continue the pursuit of their degrees,” Richtermeyer says.

Rist also supports university-wide efforts: the Rist DifferenceMaker Institute and the Rist Institute for Sustainability and Energy. “I truly believe you can solve many of the world’s problems through education,” he says. “Kim and I continue to give with the idea that others will join with us and give as well.”
