LOWELL -- "And the angel said unto thee, fear not; for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people; for until you is born this day in the City of David, a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
It's a well-known verse from the Christmas story as told in the King James Bible version of the gospel of Luke.
It's also a soprano recitative from Handel's "Messiah," which, will be part of the University of Massachusetts Lowell Annual Alumni and Community Messiah Sing at Durgin Concert Hall, 35 Wilder St., on UML's South Campus on Friday at 7:30 p.m. A brief rehearsal, not required, will be held at 6:30 p.m.
The performance which will feature part one of Georg Friedrich Handel's 18th-century masterpiece, the "Messiah," along with the "Hallelujah" chorus. The combined choirs of UML will be accompanied by a string orchestra, and admission is free.
