BOSTON -- Sophomore Angus MacDonald placed eighth in 24 minutes, 55 seconds over five miles to lead UMass Lowell to its second straight New England Cross Country Championship Saturday at Franklin Park.
UMass Lowell scored 93 points and defeated the likes of UMass Amherst (116), Providence (171) and the University of New Hampshire (181).
UML also captured last year's title and the 2006 crown.
Senior Tim Guerin placed ninth in 24:58, while sophomore Jeff Veiga (Lowell) placed 16th in 25:08. Junior Greg Wilson (Chelmsford) placed 29th while senior Steve O'Brien (Groton) rounded out UML's scoring runners in 31st in 25:26.
Senior Haley Catarius placed 69th to lead the UML women to to 21st place at the event.
UMass Lowell scored 645 points despite missing three of its top runners in juniors Lyra Clark (Nashua, N.H.) and Patricia Brice (Chelmsford) and sophomore Katelyn Allen.
Catarius ran the 5K in 19 minutes, 7 seconds.
Junior Sarah Bonomo (Tewksbury) placed 113th and freshman Nicole Skotz (Tewksbury) 189th in 20:24. Sophomore Ivory Farren (Tyngsboro) placed 197th in 20:32 and freshman Gina Butler (Dracut) took 228th in 20:58.
