Senior Ruben Sanca (Boston) is seeded No. 3 in the 5,000 meters while junior Doug Caves (Oxford) is seeded No. 3 in the 400 meter dash and will lead six UMass Lowell individuals and three relays teams at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship on Friday and Saturday at the NCAA Winter Sports Festival in Houston.
Caves secured the No. 3 seed with the third-fastest time in the country this season - 47.64 seconds - when he captured the New England Championship.
The No. 4 seed is sophomore Donte Brown (Brockton) in 47.65 seconds. Senior Andrew Grange (Methuen), making his fourth straight appearance at the NCAA indoor championship, is seeded No. 10 in 48.45 seconds.
Caves, Brown and Grange, along with junior Robert Liekweg (Salem, N.H.), will run the 4x400 meter relay, receiving the No. 6 seed in 3:15.52.
Sanca earned the No. 3 seed by posting the third-fastest time in the 5,000 meters (14:07.26).
UMass Lowell's women's and men's distance medley relay teams also garnered No. 3 seeds. The women enter the field with a time of 11:46.96.
Senior Christina DaLomba (Marstons Mills) will run the 1,200 meters while sophomore Patricia Brice (Chelmsford) will run the 400 meter dash. Junior Haley Catarius (Marshfield) is slated to run the 800 while senior Sarah Brassard (Oxford) will anchor in the mile.
The River Hawk men's DMR team enters in 9:57.70.
Junior Tim Guerin (Auburn) will open in the 1,200 while junior Justin Oliver (Lowell) will follow in the 400. Freshman Danny Wang (Haverhill) will run the 800 while Sanca will anchor in the mile.
